2008 Yakima Valley “Rara Avis” Grenache

Sourced from the Elerding Vineyard, this Grenache (85% plus 8% Mourvèdre and 7% Syrah) is impressive.  Rich nose of raspberry, strawberry, cherry, and forest carpet.  The flavors are thick and chewy, with tones of licorice, almond, and cocoa powder.  The back palate is rich and savor, imbued with scorched earth and minerals, and followed by roasted berries, cherries and a recurring tone of toasted almonds along with pepper and spices.  The supple tannins and moderate acids make it approachable, yet it is age worthy.
